Colva is a beach in southern Goa and claimed to be one of world’s largest stretching up to 24 km. It is a sought after retreat for both tourists and locals especially during the weekends. Jogger’s throng this beach early mornings and October is the time when pilgrims visiting the nearby Colva Church also relax here. The area around this beach is also ever bustling with people, as there are plenty of hotels, cafes and restaurants around. Beach shacks and bars are full until midnight. One of the popular daytime activities at Colva Beach, Goa is swimming. The main swimming areas are flagged and there are coast guards monitoring the beach until nigh time.
Colva Beach also enjoys a convenient location in southern Goa. It is around 8 km away from Margao and 40 km drive from the capital city of Panaji. The closest railhead is Margao and Dabolim is only air base.
Best Time to Visit
The highest influx of tourists in Colva Beach is from May-October. December-January is also the time when pilgrims come to the church here to pray during Christmas.

By Road There are frequent buses from Colva running to and from Margao (also Madgaon; 6 km away) from where one can take a bus to Panaji, which is 33 km further ahead.
There are several activities to keep you busy at Colva Beach. You can hire jet skis, indulge in beach sports, swimming and sunbathing in the specified zones. Having a long shoreline and hard sand, the beach is ideal for jogging. Shopping is another activity that you will enjoy at the beach area. For entertainment and fun, you can check in at the nearby bars and restaurants. New Year parties make this beach a crowded one. The fascinating coconut palm groves draw couples on their honeymoon. Water sport activities here include boat rides.

Church of our Lady of Mercy – Erected in the Portuguese colonial era, this church is a landmark in the hamlet of Colva. It is also known as the Nossa Senhora de Merces and was established in 1630. There is a statue of infant Jesus inside the church that was brought to Goa in 1648 by a Christian priest. The annual Fama Festival in church is famous and draws a large crowd of pilgrims.
Benaulim Beach – The village of Benaulim and beach lies 2 km away from Colva and is a lovely place for nature lovers. The beach here is serene and comparatively tranquil than Colva. The village has the ruins of the famous Katyayani Baneshwar Temple.
Bull Fight – From early October to late May, from 4 pm onwards, one can see the bull fights at Benaulim beach which lies close to Colva beach. On the beat of taped Konkani music, the bullfights are usually held in an old rice field with no fences or barricades just outside a village.
