Dabolim is the only airport in Goa that receives both national and international flights. This airport in Goa is located in Dabolim village and was constructed by the Portuguese government. Tourists and traders used this airport for inbound and outbound flights from Vasco da Gama and public sector airline started its operation in 1966. Charter flights started operating few years later and presently receive thousands of western tourists every year. Weekend sees most number of tourists arriving from UK and Russia in the early morning flights.
About Dabolim Airport
Built over 688 hectares, there are two terminals for passengers at the Dabolim Airport, Goa. The domestic airport is designed to handle around 350 departures and flight arrivals on a daily basis whereas the international terminal limits itself to 250 flights. The parking provision includes space for around 8 airport buses and 90 cars. The main tourists season is Christmas and New Year and domestic flights are mostly from Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Kochi. Among international destinations, Dubai and Bangkok are prominent ones. Dabolim is connected with only 10 major airports in India. European charter flights operate only seasonally and Air India and Indian Airlines have most foreign operations.
